How radiation therapy works
Radiation damages the DNA inside cancer cells so they can no longer divide. Healthy cells are better at repairing this damage than cancer cells, which is why treatment is often split into many small daily doses: it gives normal tissue time to recover between sessions while the cancer cells fall behind. Side effects, honestly
Radiation is painless as it is given, but it can cause side effects in the treated area over the following days and weeks.
